Loughton in 1900 was a very rural area and the school served a farming community. In those days Loughton consisted mostly of farmland. The population of Loughton in 1901 was just 371. Today the population is estimated to be 2400, and there are two state schools and a private school in Loughton. The area is far more developed, although there are still many paddocks and open areas, such as the Equestrian Centre and the Loughton Valley Park.
